A heavy downpour has left most parts of the capital, Accra, flooded. The rains, which started at dawn in most parts, continued till noon.
The floods have damaged personal property worth thousands of cedis in areas heavily affected.
Most school children and workers could not make it to school and work due to the floods rendering the roads unmotorable.Ghana, every year, faces the issue of flooding mostly attributed to shallow drains constructed by road contractors and the situation of buildings on waterways, as well as the indiscriminate dumping of refuse in already choked drains.
Poor planning, poor garbage disposal system, poor road construction and poor response to emergencies have once again been exposed.
Questions will need to be asked about the quality of construction of this bridge above after flooding made it a dangerous death trap.
