The Swiss announced his resignation from Fifa on Tuesday and it has emerged his dealings are being examined in the United States
Outgoing Fifa president Sepp Blatter is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI),Goal can confirm. Blatter announced his intention to stand down as head of world governing body Fifa on Tuesday, just four days after being elected for a fifth term. And it has now emerged he has come under scrutiny from the US law enforcement organisation. Blatter was not originally named on a US Department of Justice document last week which indicted 14 people on charges of racketeering, fraud and money laundering. Among those indicted were Fifa vice-president Jeffrey Webb and former president of the Brazilian Football Confederation Jose Maria Marin. In a separate investigation, the Swiss Attorney General is studying alleged corruption into the awarding of the 2018 and 2022 World Cups to Russia and Qatar respectively. Since Blatter's announcement that he will step down as Fifa president, a number of figures have expressed interest in the role, including former France midfielder David Ginola and Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein, the rival he defeated in Friday's election. Elections to replace Blatter are set to be held between December and March.
